LIBRARIES CAN INSPIRE PRIDE AND UNDERSTANDING.

LIBRARIES CAN INSPIRE PRIDE AND UNDERSTANDING.

According to ALA’s Office for Intellectual Freedom, LGBT content was the most cited reason for challenging library materials and services in 2017*—but librarians continue to fight for inclusive representation in their collections. Diverse library materials help people of all sexualities and gender identities see themselves reflected in media, as well as giving everyone a chance to learn more about the experiences of others.

GLBT Book Month is June 2018. Learn how to get involved.

*ALA’s Office for Intellectual Freedom defines a challenge as “an attempt to remove or restrict materials, based upon the objections of a person or group….Challenges do not simply involve a person expressing a point of view; rather, they are an attempt to remove material from the curriculum or library, thereby restricting the access of others.” For more information, visit: http://www.ala.org/tools/challengesupport
