BOOKS FOR ALL

The New York Public Library and the American Library Association are partnering to invite libraries, school groups, and readers across the country to participate in Books for All—a national initiative to help communities learn about and discuss some of the books that are being banned or challenged, along with ways to take action.

The American Library Association bestows numerous prestigious awards to a wide array of titles each year. From the globally recognized Youth Media Awards to the Best Graphic Novels for Adults and so much more, these are some of the best reads out there according to librarians.

Top 10 Most Challenged Books of 2023

Starting a “Banned Books” club? Look no further.

ALA documented 4,240 unique book titles targeted for censorship in 2023—a 65% surge over 2022 numbers—as well as 1,247 demands to censor library books, materials, and resources. Pressure groups focused on public libraries in addition to targeting school libraries. The number of titles targeted for censorship at public libraries increased by 92% over the previous year, accounting for about 46% of all book challenges in 2023.

For Book Clubs

Book clubs provide a wonderful forum for readers to talk about books and the reading experience and libraries contain many helpful resources for book groups. If you’re looking for a book club to join, check with your library. Libraries often provide meeting space for book clubs and many administer their own book discussion groups.
