Geena Davis wants YOU to support the American Library Association (ALA).
The Oscar-winning actor, author, and lifelong advocate for equity and education joined librarians and book lovers at ALA’s 2025 Annual Conference in Philadelphia to discuss her career and her new picture book for young readers, “The Girl Who Was Too Big for the Page,” which she also illustrated. It was a very fun conversation that concluded with Geena imparting kind words to the librarians in attendance and acknowledging their struggles.
“Your role is so invaluable. You are the custodians of the words that we all need,” she said. “Things are going to change at some point. But if you can hang on while we go through this, it’s invaluable to our world, our country, and our communities.”
ALA is here to help fight against those struggles, which include the elimination of library funding and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) thanks to the Trump administration and librarians having their livelihoods and lives threatened for simply doing their jobs.
You can help us in this fight by becoming an ALA Supporter.
Before Geena took the stage at ALA Annual, she recorded a special message proudly supporting ALA. Please join Geena and stand up for libraries and the freedom to read by becoming an ALA Supporter.
