Dolly Parton READ poster

Calling all Dolly fans!

The American Library Association’s (ALA) Dolly Parton READ poster will no longer be available after April 16 when our licensing for it ends. In the popular poster, Parton holds the picture book, “The Little Engine That Could and The Very Hungry Caterpillar.”

A lifelong advocate for libraries and literary, Parton received an honorary lifetime membership to ALA in 2023 for her longstanding support and commitment to inspiring a love of books and reading. Honorary membership is the highest honor given by ALA and conferred upon a living person whose outstanding contributions have made a lasting impact on librarianship, libraries, and the communities they serve.

Parton’s Imagination Library, which celebrated its 30th anniversary last year, mails free, high-quality, age-appropriate books to children from birth until age five-no matter their family’s income. In 2023, the Imagination Library gifted its 200 millionth book since its inception, and in 2024, 1 in 7 children (14%) under the age of 5 in the U.S. had received a book in the mail each month from the program

The Dolly Parton READ poster is available now at the ALA Store. Get yours before it disappears!

How you can support libraries

With library funding being gutted and censorship on the rise, supporting libraries is more critical than ever. If you’re looking for a way to help, we urge you to become a Supporter of the American Library Association by donating.

At the American Library Association, we are here to protect libraries — today and for generations to come. What does your donation do? It helps a neighbor gain skills to start a business. It helps a child discover themselves through books and programs. And it helps keep libraries strong, open, and free for everyone.
