‘Harold and the Purple Crayon’ Star Lil Rel Howery Wants You to Discover New Worlds at Your Library

Lil Rel Howery and Zachery Levi in Harold and the Purple Crayon

In the new film “Harold and the Purple Crayon,” Crockett Johnson’s beloved 1955 children’s book comes to life in a hilarious and touching tale for the whole family about the power of imagination.

Harold and the Purple Crayon posterLiving inside Johnson’s book, Harold (played by Zachary Levi) can make anything come to life simply by drawing it with his magic crayon. Ever curious, he longs for more, though. After Harold grows up and draws himself and his friends Porcupine (Tanya Reynolds) and Moose (Lil Rel Howery) off the book’s pages and into the physical world, he soon finds that real life is much different than the world created for him. And when the magic crayon falls into the wrong hands, Harold and his friends must use their imaginations, creativity, and friendship to save the day.

In a message recorded specially for I Love Libraries, "Harold and the Purple Crayon" star and library lover Lil Rel Howery encourages everyone to visit their local library to discover exciting new worlds, both real and imaginary, in books, comics, games, and more.

And thanks to our friends at Sony Pictures, you can set up a "Harold and the Purple Crayon" Drawn to Creativity Station in your library or home with activity guides and bookmarks and watch kids’ imaginations pop off the page!

Be sure to catch "Harold and the Purple" in a theater near you August 2.
