Tony Award-winning performer, actress, singer-songwriter, and philanthropist Idina Menzel (Wicked, Frozen, Rent) and her sister, author and educator Cara Mentzel, are singing the praises of libraries as honorary chairs of Library Card Sign-Up Month this year!
As honorary chairs, Idina and Cara want to remind everyone that one of the best places to find your voice is at the library. And during Library Card Sign-Up Month, they want us to explore all the library has to offer, like access to technology, educational programming, and new children’s books.
"It's a little card that goes a loud way. Let your imagination sing at the library," says Idina. Cara adds: “The library is where your imagination sings. Get your library card and 'check it out' today."
We have a special Library Card Sign-Up Month message from Idina and Cara below.
The sisters’ love of reading, writing, and music is on full display in their soon-to-be-released debut picture book for kids, Loud Mouse (Disney Hyperion, September), about a mouse named Dee (aka Loud Mouse) who loves to sing very loudly. A bookmark featuring Dee is available for purchase in the ALA Store, along with a poster featuring Idina. Free Library Card Sign-up Month social media graphics featuring Idina, Cara, and Loud Mouse are also available for download to help you show the world your love of libraries!
