“Now, more than ever, the American Library Association has our backs. And we have theirs. We’re proud to be supporters of the American Library Association. And we hope you’ll stand with us and support them too.”
Raina Telgemeier and Scott McCloud are legends in the comic book and publishing world—and huge library supporters.
Raina is the Eisner Award-winning creator of the graphic novels, “Smile,” “Sisters,” “Guts,” “Drama,” and “Ghosts,” and is the adapter and illustrator of the first four “Baby-sitters Club” graphic novels. Scott, a Will Eisner Awards Hall of Fame inductee, is the bestselling author of the influential graphic novels, “Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art” and “Making Comics: Storytelling Secrets of Comics, Manga, and Graphic Novels,” and is a frequent lecturer on the power of visual communication.
Raina and Scott joined librarians and library workers from across the country at the American Library Association’s (ALA) 2025 LibLearnX in January to discuss their new book, “The Cartoonists Club,” available April 2025. While there, they also recorded a crucial message pledging their support of ALA—and a plea for everyone to join them.
ALA has protected libraries and the freedom to read across the U.S. for 150 years. Want to join Raina and Scott and become an ALA supporter (and get some awesome perks)? It’s easy!
