Congratulations to “The Librarians” for winning an Emmy this weekend!
Filmmaker Kim Snyder’s documentary about public and school librarians in Texas, Florida, and other states who unite to combat book banning in the United States was awarded a 2026 Emmy® for Exceptional Merit In Documentary Filmmaking at the Creative Arts Emmys, held September 5th and 6th at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles.
The Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking Emmy® is judged and awarded on the basis of the “filmmaker’s expressed vision, compelling power of storytelling, artistry, or innovation of craft, and the capacity to inform, transport, impact, enlighten, and create a moving and indelible work that elevates the art of documentary filmmaking.”
Snyder shared her thoughts on the Emmy® win on Instagram today.
“We are proud to stand in solidarity with all our courageous librarians, true heroes, and so many others across the nation who continue to fight to defend our First Amendment rights and our Freedom to Read,” she wrote. “This award is such an honor—and it honors them all.”

Amanda Jones, librarian and author of “That Librarian,” which follows her own battles against book banning in her home state of Louisiana and the impact it had on her life and career, is featured in the documentary, and she shared these photos with I Love Libraries of “The Librarians” team at the Creative Arts Emmy® ceremony.
Thanks to the Emmy® awards for celebrating and honoring this documentary and librarians across the country who are fighting against censorship on the frontlines of democracy.
You can catch “The Librarians” in select theaters across the country this fall in conjunction with Banned Books Week 2026 or stream it now at PBS. “The Librarians” will be also available for streaming on Apple TV October 6.
